Social Butterflies...

Butterflies are important economically as agents of pollination. Culturally, butterflies are a popular motif in the visual and literary arts.

The Ancient Greek word for "butterfly" is ψυχή (psȳchē), which primarily means "soul", "mind".

Social butterfly means a gregarious person.

Social media is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques.

So, we started a group called the "Social Butterflies", based here in Adelaide to flutter through others worlds and to see where we could take things.

It's on Facebook at this stage only:

Love to see you flutter in and join us :)

Now, social media can be said to have three components;

1. Concept (art, information, or meme).
2. Media (physical, electronic, or verbal).
3. Social interface (intimate direct, community engagement, social viral, electronic broadcast or syndication, or other physical media such as print).

Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, wikis, podcasts, pictures, video, rating and social bookmarking. Technologies include: blogs, picture-sharing, vlogs, wall-postings, email, instant messaging, music-sharing, crowdsourcing, and voice over IP, to name a few.

Twitter v Facebook - what's it to be?

lots of convo again today. here's my side.

i have this theme developing in my head where i think twitter is more personal.

woooooooooooooooooooooooah

many people slam dunk twitter because they believe it is for big corporates to spam users.

well i oppose that concept.

i think, yes, it is a mass marketing tool and one that PR and communications people use to their credit and fullest capability. but i also think that if i want to reply to someone specifically and in particular - it is actually quite difficult for someone to cut across or butt in.

and i like that.

so it's gets personal.

i LOVE to interact, dont get me wrong. but there are times when a one-on-one suits the purpose more than anything else... and i feel like i can get that from twitter and not facebook. so, where i was clamoring before to find apps that gave me the conversation thread and the interaction power, now i need both. interaction and one-on-one. the option.

yes, there is the facebook inbox and yes I can have a twitter direct message, i can be as discrete, silent, direct and hidden as the rest... this however, is more like feeling i am giving someone my undivided attention at a partee, not worried about who hears - but undivided.

and i am liking this.

what do you think?

Day One Hundred & Twenty Eight

mum, why do you keep doing your twitter fotos with me in the background?

>>because ive been home all day and i have nothing else to talk about?

OK, that's fine.

================

health. it's important. and it sucks when we're sick. but she's a good spirited kid and she has been quite good about it all really (no sooks). she did try and be brave and get up earlier today but she realised just how crap she felt!!

having said that - she has read me out of house and home...!! LOL

=================

but during the day (when on LinkedIn actually) i noticed a friend post about an awareness day. so i asked him if he'd posted it to FaceBook (no) and if he knew about Newsmaker (no). The only reason i mentioned it to him was because he's from a charity organisation and they dont always have the big dollars for expensive media campaigns. Hey - who does these days?

He has subscribed to Newsmaker now and I've helped him create a FaceBook event, here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=98920887541

Anyway... then i watched a new YouTube channel and the girl was talking about social media with Jeremiah Owyang (from Forrester), who said "the thing about social media is that it's inexpensive".

No surprises in the statement HOWEVER social media does take effort to get it right. And that's the bit people forget.

Cheap as in "no dollars". Not so cheap as in "time".

Jeremiah should know - he confessed to doing his 2 hours of reading before work ie between 4am and 6am (and then sometimes on the weekend as well). That's dedication for you!!

Day One Hundred & Twenty

@charlierobinson says hi to @spotrick

Where all this started today:
www.plurk.com/p/rm6ec

So I responded. But to do it, I had to take a candid snap on my fone. Upload it to Twitpic via Dabr, then right click to get properties, copy/paste the image properties into @spotricks response for him to see the image. Fairly clunky but I got there!!

Here’s my answer:

Took me back to my silliness when creating my own emicons (as I call them in brief)
